A Few Good Men

Rob Reiner’s “A Few Good Men” is a 1992 American legal drama film staring Tom Cruise. Cruise plays Daniel Kaffee, a lawyer in the American Navy who defends 2 stubborn marines on trial for murdering a colleague, William Santiago. The film also features Jack Nicholson, who plays the Colonel, Nathan R. Jessop. In a scene where Kaffee (Cruise) puts Jessop (Nicholson) on the stand and questions him whether he had ordered the 2 marines to harm William Santiago, Nicholson coined the famous quote “You can’t handle the truth”.

The cast, in particular Cruise and Nicholson, perform, powerful roles that help atone for the somewhat predictable plot. The dramatic storyline sees a young Cruise working tirelessly to prove the 2 marines are innocent, whilst Colonel Jessop wants the whole incident swept under the rug, and stands as the lawyer’s biggest obstacle.

Split

This movie by M. Night Shyamalan is truly a piece of art. It is a story about a person named Kevin, who is suffering from multiple personality disorder. Kevin keeps juggling between two dozen different personalities. James McAvoy is playing the role of Kevin and he has truly done justice to the role. Although there is not much scenery in the movie, the main focus of the lens is McAvoy, who relied on variation in his body language, facial expressions and accent rather on different costumes to play different personalities of Kevin i.e. a gay fashion designer, a renegade nine-year old. an obsessive-compulsive control freak, and a crazy church lady, among others. All in all, we definitely recommend this movie.

Avatar

James Cameron’s Avatar (2009) serves as the epitome of the imaginative stories and worlds that Cameron brings to life, through his detailed storytelling and his distinctive vision. Set in the backdrop of Pandora, a lush, alien world 4.4 light years away from Earth, Avatar follows the story of Jake Sully, a paraplegic who is thrust into the dangerous and bizarre life of his recently deceased twin brother, Tommy. As Jake serves as a DNA match to Tommy, he is accepted the Pandora Science Program, an initiative to assimilate with the local Pandoran native, the Na’vi people. Jake’s adventure leads him to startling realisations about his own identity and role in the greater good.

The most notable fact about Avatar is that it is highest grossing film in cinema history, which in itself serves as a testament to the successfully enjoyable engrossing experience it provided to audiences worldwide. Although people have argued that Avatar is overshadowed by a lack of originality with respect to plot, it provides an undeniably unique and visually immersive experience that has not been contested by movies both past and present. We here at the Good Fellas recommend this movie to everyone, as you too can experience a cinematographic masterpiece that pushes the bounds of CGI technology.

The Good Fellas

We can't call ourselves The Good Fellas without paying tribute to originals!

The Good Fellas, is one of the 90’s greatest movie. A superb cast formed by the all-time Mafia movie face (Oscar winner) Robert De Niro, (Oscar winner) Joe Pesci, Ray Liotta and Paul Sorvino, directed by Martin Scorsese nothing else is needed to be said. The movie is a good over view of the mafia in it’s good old days, fancy cars, beautiful girls, lots and lots of alcohol and a gentle touch of mafia’s power with a bit a blood.

Henry Hill (Ray Liotta) is a teenager when start his life in the outlaw business, he works for Jimmy the Gent (Robert De Niro) and his partner the temperamental Tommy DeVito (Joe Pesci) unloading trucks, Henry has a slow start in his “career”, but it does not take long for him to fill his pockets with money, then power then the women. The Good Fellas shows how the mob is bringing down by the mistakes of his close friends (or partners in crime), and how even inside of a prison the MOBs still having control of illegal businesses and contraband.
